Account Security

A guild member today received a battletag friend request from someone using the name GM88 – a quick google of the name came up with this – (direct quote from a user on forums)

“Hi, I wasn’t sure if you were aware of this but, account thieves are sending people battletag friend requests and spamming them with ‘instructions’ from ‘Blizzard GMs’ that say to go to a website or else the account will be suspended. Obviously, this is not legit and I hope no one falls for it, but it’s a new form of trying to scam people for me to encounter so I wanted to let others and you know. The battletag had GM88 as its name, so be wary of similar names.”

Apparently if you accept – (another direct quote from forums ) –

“They send links, tell you that you violated some rule, or that you won some item that is desirable. Usually it requests you “verify” your information. The site looks legit, but it really is an elaborate fake and it steals your account and password, and likely also installs further malware into your system.”

So please be careful about accepting friend requests from names you don’t recognise – keep your account safe!
