Hand of Nilganihmaht – Secret Mount in Chains of Domination

All info from Wowhead

To find this mount, you must complete a myriad of activities within the Maw, as well as venture into the mysterious Rift dimension to claim the mount itself.

The Rift

The Rift is a shadowy realm that exists within the Maw and Korthia, a side dimension that is mostly populated by shades and shadowy creatures. Some of the known portions of the Hand of Nilganimaht puzzle are located within the Rift. There are two ways currently known that players can venture through the Rift:

  • Players at Rank 4 or above with The Archivists’ Codex are able to purchase  Repaired Riftkey and use these to enter the Rift from several portals in Korthia. This way, you are able to explore the Rift in both Korthia and The Maw, although you will only be able to stay there for 15 minutes. Entrance to the Rift using this method is unlimited as long as you have Riftkeys to spare.
  • One of the quests that can show up during the Night Fae Assault,  A Shady Place, grants you an  Unbalanced Riftstone that grants you access from The Rift from anywhere within the Maw. Using this method allows you to stay in the Rift for 10 minutes, and you can re-enter as many times as you want (as long as the Assault is active), but you cannot explore the Korthia portion of the Rift.

The Hand of Nilganihmaht

Forlong Respite is one of the caves players can find within the Planes of Torment in the Maw, and the cave where players seek refuge from Mawsworn forces during the Maw introduction questline. However, in the Rift, this cave changes a bit – In the Rift, the cave is instead named Hollow of the Insolent, and within it, you can find the aforementioned Hand of Nilganihmaht. The Hand is phased and can only be seen while in the Rift.

Each finger has a slot for a ring:

Next to the Hand is a book that can be looted, giving you  Hands of Defiance: A Chronicle of Woe, a short story that tells you the tale of four souls that were sent to the Maw for their abusive ways, and continued their wicked ways while in the Jailer’s domain. These souls were converted to the four Hand mounts in Chains of Domination –  Hand of Bahmethra Hand of Hrestimorak Hand of Salaranga and the one that serves as the star for this article,  Hand of Nilganihmaht.

 Nilganihmaht’s Stone Ring

To assemble this ring, you must loot four Quartered Ancient Rings and reforge them together at a Soulsteel Forge in Zovaal’s Cauldron. All Quartered Ancient rings can be found at Perdition Hold during a Necrolord Assault, but only if the quest  Putting A Plan Together is available – As you will need the Overcharged Centurion vehicle accessible after the completion of the quest to access them.

  •  Quartered Ancient Ring is looted from Mawsworn Caches atop the walls surrounding Perdition Hold – These chests can be looted without the Overcharged Centurion, but will not have the ring inside unless you loot them while using the vehicle.
  •  Quartered Ancient Ring is obtained from completing the quest  Clearing the Walls, obtained from the  Defense Map that is also looted from the Mawsworn caches atop the walls of Perdition Hold.
  •  Quartered Ancient Ring can be found at several places in Perdition Hold on the floor after looting at least one other Quartered Ring – A nice spot is by the vases near the rare Shadeweaver Zeris.
  •  Quartered Ancient Ring is looted from the Maw Mad Construct NPC. This NPC will start to spawn after looting at least one other Quartered Ring, and will run around Perdition Hold yelling your name. This NPC will run through mobs and away from you, until it eventually despawns. If you miss him, he will respawn in a few minutes.

Once you have all four Quartered Ancient Rings, just go to one of the Soulsteel Forges by Zovaal’s Cauldron and click on them to forge the Stone Ring.

 Nilganihmaht’s Runed Band

Nilganihmaht’s Runed Band can be looted from the rare Torglluun. This rare is located in the Maw, usually at the same location as Cyrixia near the Tremaculum, but can only be accessed while in the Rift phase. The ring appears to be another 100% drop from Torglluun.

Nilganihmaht’s Gold Band

This ring requires some parkour skills to get to it. The ring is atop a mountain formation overlooking the Crucible of the Damned and Calcis. You do not need anything special like Demon Hunter abilities to climb to it, but it can be a scary experience if you dread accidentally jumping off the edge of the Maw. You can watch a quick video below on how to climb to the ring:

Nilganihmaht’s Silver Ring

Nilganihmaht’s Silver Ring can be found inside the Domination Sealed Chest, located in the Desmotaeron area of the Maw. This chest is not only locked, but located inside a cage that is sealed away by three locks. To unlock the cage and obtain this ring, you must locate four  Seal Breaker Key:

  • One key has a low chance to drop from Maldraxxi Defector located through the Desmotaeron. These are Elite mobs but can be solo’d with a decent amount of gear.
  • Another key can be found inside a building next to the cage that holds the rare Deomen the Vortex. The second key is in The Harrower’s Key Ring, located right next to the named mob Kjellrun.
  • The next key can be found inside  Feeder’s Hand and Key, a drop from the Desmotaeron rare mob Ylva. This seems to be a 100% drop as of the latest PTR build, although the rare is an Elite located in an area surrounded by elites.
  • The last key can be found within Helgarde Supply Caches located at a couple locations through the Desmotaeron. Keep your eyes peeled for these, as they will not show on your minimap.

Once you have the four Seal Breaker keys, simply head to the Domination Sealed Chest and unlock it for your Silver Ring.

 Nilganihmaht’s Signet Ring

The last ring is perhaps the most boring of them all – It is a drop from the rare Exos, Herald of Domination. This rare can be located at the top level of Domination Keep in Perdition Hold. To approach this rare, you must craft or have someone with a  Domination’s Calling open the portal to the rare. The Calling does not spawn the add, only makes the portal spawn so people can climb there.

Assembling the Mount

Once you obtain all five rings, all you need to do is return to the Rift and head to the cave where the Hand of Nilganihmaht is at. Once there, place all 5 rings at their specific slots and once you do, the Hand will come back to life and offer you the quest  Gotta Hand It To Ya. Hand the quest in and receive your  Nilganihmaht Control Ring! The Hand mounts unfortunately do not fly, but have a unique /mountspecial animation: They play a round a Rock Paper Scissors, choosing one of the three at random!
